A former police marksman accused of murdering Hounslow man Azelle Rodney [was] due in court today.

Anthony Long is listed to appear at the Old Bailey this afternoon charged with the murder of Mr Rodney. The ex-firearms officer has yet to enter a plea, and the case is listed today for mention only.

Mr Rodney was shot dead by police in Edgware in 2005 when officers stopped the car in which the 24-year-old was travelling. They believed the occupants were on their way to rob a rival drugs gang.

The Crown Prosecution Service announced in July it was charging the ex-firearms officer then known only as E7, after a public inquiry found there was ‘no lawful justification’ for killing Mr Rodney.
